A Modern Barn Wedding at Olympia’s Valley Estate

A Modern Barn Wedding at Olympia’s Valley Estate

Some weddings have a colour palette. Others have an entire visual language.

Sarah and Matt’s California wedding was the latter - a beautifully layered celebration of unexpected colour, organic florals and thoughtful details, held amongst the rolling landscape of Olympia's Valley Estate.

Designed and planned by Be Hitched, the day felt effortlessly modern while still belonging completely to its rural surroundings. Soft olive greens, deep burgundy, warm orange and touches of lilac moved through the wedding, creating a palette that felt rich without becoming overly polished. The florals were loose and sculptural, the timber and natural textures of the venue were allowed to shine, and every detail felt considered without feeling too perfect.

For Sarah and Matt's stationery, we wanted to create something that could carry this visual story from the very first envelope through to the wedding day.

The Invitation Suite

The invitation suite introduced the palette with an olive green letterpress invitation, paired with a deep burgundy envelope and custom floral illustrations.

The typography was intentionally editorial, with Sarah and Matthew's names taking centre stage in an oversized serif. Smaller details were kept restrained, creating contrast and allowing the letterpress impression and beautiful paper stock to do their thing.

A soft grey envelope liner featured a repeating floral illustration, while the outer envelope carried its own delicate floral detail. Twine wrapped around the invitation added another tactile layer - simple, organic and perfectly suited to the setting.

It was modern wedding stationery, but not stark. Botanical without feeling traditionally romantic. Colourful, but incredibly grown up.

A Stationery Story That Continued Into the Wedding Day

One of our favourite things about custom stationery is seeing the design language move beyond the invitation.

For Sarah and Matt, the floral illustrations and typography continued throughout the day-of stationery, creating small moments of recognition for guests.

Place cards were arranged across a timber table beneath an incredible sculptural floral arrangement, each held in a translucent amber block. The warm orange acrylic picked up the tones of the florals and created the most beautiful contrast against the white cards and olive typography.

The menus continued the same restrained layout and delicate floral artwork, allowing every piece to feel connected without simply repeating the invitation design.

Even the bar signage became part of the story. Framed in textured orange, the simple typography and subtle green details felt completely at home amongst the flowers, glassware and stacks of personalised matchboxes.

It's Always the Tiny Details

And then there were the matchboxes.

Deep burgundy with Sarah + Matt's names and the custom floral artwork printed in white, they sat piled in a timber bowl amongst the bar florals. A tiny detail, perhaps - but exactly the kind of detail guests pick up, use and take home.

We also loved the bespoke label sewn inside Matt's jacket, embroidered with the wedding date. It was quiet, personal and almost entirely hidden.

Those are often our favourite wedding details. The ones that aren't necessarily created for a photograph or a Pinterest board, but simply because they mean something to the couple.

A Celebration of Colour, Texture and Really Good Design

Sarah and Matt's wedding is proof that a wedding doesn't need to follow one defined aesthetic.

It can be editorial and organic. Modern and romantic. Refined and a little unexpected.

From the wild, sculptural florals to the amber place card holders, burgundy paper details and olive letterpress, every element felt like it belonged to the same world - without everything needing to match.

For us at Rebel Reflect, this is what custom wedding stationery is all about. Creating a visual thread that begins in your guests' hands months before the wedding and quietly follows them all the way to their seat at the table.
